“Danza mecánica” is a piece based on the rhythm of the traditional dance “Huaylarsh”, that is original from the Mantaro Valley, in the central Andes of Peru. The piece has two parts: The first one is a prelude and the second one makes reference to the dance. For its composition, the sound spectrum of some traditional saxophone players of “Huaylarsh” when tuning their instruments was analyzed. Also, the second part takes some common rhythmic patterns of the dance for creating constant movement that seems mechanic. It’s recurrent the use of the rhythm and the melodic outline of the cadence that is usually played for ending a melodic phrase of the dance.
