“Canto Fecundo” is the title of a poem written by Alejandro Susti. In the author’s words, it is a text whose theme revolves around the idea of a nation whose history and identity are forged through time. A nation formed by a plural self that encompasses not only those who inhabit a specific geographic space and time, but also those who were part of that “being” in the past and will be in the future. This is the “unbreakable thread beneath the earth” that beats “like an infinite breath beneath the wombs of mothers,” a thread of the fertile “us” that merges with the landscape of the sea, the sky, and the earth.
This poem was written at the request of the composer, Michael Magán. This was within the framework of the II Taki-2019 Choral Composition Competition, in which the work won second place in the original choral work category.
