Biography

Michael Magán is a composer born on September 20, 1995, in Huancayo, Peru. From an early age, he showed a keen interest in music, participating in various ensembles in his hometown and at the Salesian school “Santa Rosa.” During his final years of school, he became interested in musical composition, a career he decided to pursue professionally. In 2013, he moved to Lima to begin his studies at the National Conservatory of Music (now the National University of Music). That same year, he was recognized by the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo as the winner of the National Floral Games “From Cádiz to the Plaza de la Constitución in Huancayo” with his work “Mate Burilado.”

During his studies, he had various Peruvian composers as teachers, including José Sosaya, Alvaro Zúñiga, Benjamín Bonilla, Dante Valdez, and Nilo Velarde. Later, he became interested in electroacoustic music, taking classes with teachers Abel Castro and José Ignacio López. He also attended master classes and talks by internationally renowned composers such as Kristoff Penderecki, Freddy Vallejos, Rodrigo Sigal, Arturo Marquez, Jimmy Lopez, Juan Arroyo, and Jaime Oliver.

While still a student at the Conservatory, he had the opportunity to premiere various works at festivals, recitals, and competitions. Among these, his participation in contemporary music festivals held in Lima, such as “La Trenza Sonora” and “Festival de Jóvenes Compo,” stands out.
